SCIENCE!
I know there's a bunch of social-science types on here. Any of y'all have experience running surveys online? What worked? What didn't? Did you write/host your own survey pages or use one of the special survey-hosting sites out there?

It worked as a good means of data-gathering for my initial survey that then led to selecting people for in-person interviews (both sets of data went into my project). My DH wrote the survey pages for me.

That does seem like a good use for them. I'm not doing anything that calls for interviews, though — just trying to gather a whole bunch of linguistic judgments cheaply. :)

Yeah. It sounded like fun at the time, but basically I spent the rest of the afternoon flailing around her lab bumping into things.
